Five Station 4 EMTs successfully completed a 16 hour ITLS class hosted by Dalton Fire Company (Station 5). International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) is a global organization dedicated to preventing death and disability from trauma through education and emergency trauma care. ITLS is accepted internationally as the standard training course for prehospital trauma care, and is not only taught as continuing education course, but is also used as a textbook in many Paramedic, EMT, and first responder training programs. This rigorous course covered topics including Scene Size-Up, Patient Assessment, Shock, and various types of trauma such as Chest, Abdominal, and Spinal trauma. It concluded with an afternoon of testing consisting of a written exam and a practical skill station exam. Instructors from Geisinger Life Flight as well as Station 4’s own EMS-4, EMT-P Howard Hicks did an excellent job of presenting the material. Members of Dalton, Justus, Factoryville as well as other stations also benefited from the training.
