June 24, 2008- A full response was requested by Chief 5 to assist Station5 (Dalton) for a train derailed in Glenburn Township. Railroad workers on scene were stating that there were 9 cars derailed which was a mix of box and tanker cars. Units arrived on scene and went to work assessing the situation. Rail authorities stated that the cars were empty except for some residual left after offloading. EMA and DEP also assisted in evaluating any potential hazards. After 4 hours, crews cleared the scene after confirming there was no immediate danger. For more info check out the Scranton Times.

Ladder on 2 Alarm in Old Forge PDF Print E-mail

June 1, 2008- Ladder 4 was dispatched to assist Station 93 (Old Forge) for a second alarm commercial building fire. First arriving units quickly went to work knocking down the bulk of the fire. Ladder 4 arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul of the first floor and side a of the structure. Ladder 4 operated for about two hours before going in service.

May 30, 2008- Engine 2 and Ambulance 2-9 were dispatched to the 1100 block of Fairview Rd. for the reported vehicle fire.  South Abington Police arrived on-scene and reported extension to the structure.  Chief 2A requested a structure box, which added Rescue 2 and Tanker 2 to the alarm.  Chief 28B then arrived on-scene and reported a working vehicle fire with extension into the attic space.  Chief 2A then requested the 2nd Alarm.  Engine 2 arrived on-scene, established a water supply and started an interior attack.  The crews were quickly forced out by a roof collapse and operations shifted to exterior.  Ladder 4 arrived and assisted with ventilation and overhaul.  Engine 4 arrived and assisted with overhaul.  Only one occupant was home at the time of the fire and he was able to leave without injury.  Multiple crews from Chinchilla, Clarks Summit, Dalton, Newton-Ransom, Peckville, Justus and Scott assisted with the fire.  All units were cleared within four hours.

 MAY 8, 2008- Ladder and Engine 4, along with 4-9, were dispatched for a second alarm assignment in South Abington for a working commercial fire. Crews quickly knocked down the fire on the roof of the building and searched the interior and adjacent stores for any extension. The majority of the damage was on the roof in the area of the air conditioning units where the fire started. Units operated for approximately 90 minutes.

April 27, 2008- Ladder 4 was dispatched along with Station 8 and 2 for a reported structure fire. The initial call was for a garage fire rapidly spreading to the house. Police arrived on scene within minutes an confirmed a fully involved house fire. Crews for Newton/Ransom and Chinchilla went to work with hand lines and master streams to knock down the fire while the Ladder 4 crew acted as the fast team and then go to work opening wall and assisting with overhaul. Crews were on scene for approximately 3 hours.

April 20, 2008- Engine and Ladder 4 were dispatched with Station 5 for a reported kitchen fire on Lily Lake Rd. in Dalton Borough. Chief 5A arrived on scene and reported the smoke condition coming from the residence. Ladder 5 Arrived on scene an quickly knocked down the fire which was contained to the stove. Crews assisted with checking for extension and ventilation of the structure. All units cleared in about 1 hour.

Working Fire on Gravel Pond Rd. PDF Print E-mail

April 13, 2008- Station 4 and Station 5 were dispatched to the reported building fire at the corner of Gravel Pond Rd. and Fords Pond Rd. Upon arrival there was heavy fire self venting from level 1 and 2 on the "D" side of the structure. Crews quickly went to work pulling lines and establishing a water supply. The Engine 4 crew made an attempt at an interior attack but were forced back out by the quickly deteriorating conditions. Operations were switched to defensive. with hand lines and elevated master streams. Units operated for 3 hours to control the fire.

March 15, 2008- Once again the Clarks Summit Fire Co. participated in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Downtown Scranton. Members marched in front of the largest crowd ever with an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 spectators.

March 8, 2008- The Clarks Summit Fire Company is proud to announce that our new ladder truck is inservice.  After many hours of extensive training we are finally ready to put the truck on the road.  Check back soon for more pictures.
