Ladder 4 and Station 2 (Chinchilla) were dispatched to Dogwood Drive in South Abington Twp for the report of something burning in the residence. Chief 2B arrived and reported to the smell of smoke in the residence, no visible fire. Ladder 4 was assigned to check the exterior of the structure while Engine 2 checked the interior. Crews found the source of the smoke to be coming from a faulty HVAC unit in the attic. Crews ventilated and returned to service.

Station 4 and Station 5 (Dalton) were dispatched to White Birch Lane in Glenburn for bushes on fire next to the residence. Chief 4B arrived and reported the 50' x 100' area of brush on fire near the residence. Crews from Engine 4, Engine 5, Brush 5, and Tanker 5 responded and used forestry hose off of the Brush truck to control the fire. Companies worked for about 30 minutes to control the rapidly expanding brush fire.

While the Ladder was operating at the structure fire in Area 2, Engine 4 handled a fully involved car fire in the Abington Community Library Parking Lot. Engine 4 was originally requested to the scene of the structure fire, then cancelled by command and rerouted to the car fire at the library. Engine 4 arrived and found a fully involved car fire burning in the parking lot with no exposure problems. The engine crew made quick work of the fire and were back in service within 20 minutes. While crews operated at the working structure fire and working car fire, mutual aid companies handled a dryer fire at the Clarks Summit State Hospital.

Ladder 4 responded as part of the First Alarm Structure Assignment with Station 2 (Chinchilla) and Engine 28 (Justus) for the working structure fire in an abandoned house on Griffen Pond Road. Comm Center reported to Chief 2A that South Abington Police were on scene reporting heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Engine 2-1 arrived and went to work knocking down the bulk of the fire with a preconnected hoseline. Ladder 4 arrived and was assigned to overhaul the fire room, while the crews from Engine 2 and Engine 28 stood by. With the fire extinguished and overhaul complete, command returned all companies. The fire started after embers from a nearby controlled burn were blown into the structure.

Station 4 was dispatched to the area of 1000 South State Street for the smoke condition in the area. As more reports came into the 911 center, the source of smoke was found to be coming from the New Century Buffet in the Shopping Plaza. Chief 4B arrived and reported the heavy smoke condition coming from the structure and requested Engine 2 (Chinchilla) into the scene. Engine 4 arrived and went to work locating the seat of the fire and ventilating the smoke in the building. Ladder 4 was sent to the roof to help with ventilation. Engine 2 assisted Engine 4 with ventilation and overhaul. The fire was found to be a meat dryer in the kitchen of the restaurant and was extinguished with a Dry-Chem extinguisher. Units operated for about 45 minutes.

Ladder 4 assisted Station 2 (Chinchilla) as part of the First Alarm Structure Box at Applewood Acres for the reported bedroom fire. Chief 2B arrived on scene and reported the heavy smoke condition in the downstairs appartment, evacuation in progress. Ladder 4 arrived with Engine 2-1 and found a faulty humidifier as the source of the smoke. Crews ventilated and checked the residence for any extension. With ventilation complete, all companies were returned to service.

Engine 4 assisted Station 5 (Dalton) on working fire in North Abington Township. on arrival crew found heavy fire on the B side of the structure. Engine 4 went to work providing fire suppression and overhaul activities. The cause of the fire was a lawn tractor idling in the garage. Images from the Times-Tribune.

2nd Alarm Assignment in Ransom PDF Print E-mail

Ladder 4 responded as part of a second alarm assignment to assist Station 8 (Newton Ransom) on a working fire. While enroute, command 8 notified comm center that the fire had been knocked down and companies were in the process of checking for extension. Once on scene the Ladder 4 crew was told to stand by in staging while overhaul was being performed. With the fire extinguished, all companies returned to service. The source of the fire was from burning oil under a machine.
